Stanley Deetz and Semira Soraya-Kandan met through their common mentor Hellmut Geißner and their common interest in organizational and intercultural communication way back in 1988. They kept in touch and reconnected as consultants. Today, he supports our consultant group in leadership training and change management by developing a "co-generative perspective" on dialog and difference at the workplace.
His core competencies include the ability to produce structural and cultural changes increasing openness to innovation and continuous learning. Stan utilizes systemic thinking to help clients understand the inter-relationships of values and activities and to develop team and collaborative processes of continuous assessment and learning. He does this through helping organizations produce a compelling vision of the future that integrates various personal and organizational goals, revise existing assumptions and ways of talking, and develop story telling about organization events and environments.
Stanley Deetz has an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in the study of human interaction and is currently a Professor Emeritus at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the USA. He is a National Communication Association Distinguished Scholar and an International Communication Association Past-President and Fellow. He was a Senior Fulbright Scholar at the University of Goteborg in Sweden and has given over one hundred public lectures in twenty-two countries and is a frequent conference keynoter.
Stan has spent his long career studying human interaction and organizational change processes and has led significant organizational training and development processes for several international organizations. His organizational development processes emphasis increased organizational agility, flexibility and proactive decision making through quality communication skills, positive collaborative relationships, conflict management and transformation, and finding benefits in diversity. He is the author of several books including Managing Interpersonal Interaction, Leading Organizations through Transitions, and Transforming Communication—Transforming Business.
He currently works internationally with the International Atomic Energy Agency to enhance safety in nuclear power plants through cultural change as well as a consultant for several other organizational and Institutional Change efforts.
Stan lives in Boulder, Colorado.
